The Ultimate Belt Guide: How to Choose the Perfect Belt Size

Belt Sizing: What a Mess.

Have you ever tried to find the right belt size and felt like you were trying to solve a puzzle? Men's belts use numbers, but some count the buckle and some don't. And don't even get me started on women's belts—they're labeled S, M, L, etc., with no rhyme or reason. It’s a miracle anyone finds a belt that fits!

Middleyak to the Rescue

I’ve got your back. We make belt sizing super simple: our belts are measured in inches. The number you see is the length from the inside edge of the buckle to the center hole at the end. (Check out the diagram below for a visual.)

So, How Do You Find Your Size?

You might be thinking, "Great, Marissa, but how do I figure out my belt size?" Excellent question! I’ve got three easy methods to help you out. They aren’t perfect, but they’re pretty darn close. Just remember, your size might change a bit depending on where your pants sit on your waist.

Method 1: Add 4 Inches to Your Pant Waist Size

This is the quickest and easiest method, though not the most precise. Just add 4 inches to your pant waist size, and you’re good to go!

Method 2: Measure an Old Belt

Got an old belt that fits perfectly? Measure it from the inside edge of the buckle to the hole you use the most. This should give you a pretty accurate size. (Diagram above if you need a visual.)

Method 3: The Soft Tape Measure Trick

For the most accurate measurement, grab your favorite pair of pants and a soft tape measure. Stand up straight, wrap the tape measure through the belt loops (not too tight or too loose), add 1.5 inches to the measured length—this is the inside length of the buckle, it matters— and then round up to the nearest belt size.

Wrap-Up

Finding the right belt size doesn’t have to be a headache. Whether you go the quick and easy route of adding inches to your pant size, measure an old favorite, or get precise with a tape measure, you’re on your way to the perfect fit. Check out our collection at Middleyak and find a belt that’s both stylish and comfy as fuck.

Happy shopping, friends!
